Alice Foster

Mrs. Alice Elizabeth (White) Foster, 90, of Troy, Missouri, followed the angels home on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab in Troy, Missouri. She was born on January 15, 1923 in Davis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Lavern and Kate Lee (Kimler) White. She married Joseph “Hayden” Foster, the love of her life on March 29, 1969 in Troy, Missouri and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1983. She attended Harris Stowe College and Washington University, where she earned her degree in Early Childhood Education and while going to college she worked at Sears. After graduating college she started teaching in the St. Louis School District, where she retired after many years of service. Hayden and Alice were partial owners of the Troy Free Press for many years. Mrs. Foster was very active in various organizations in her community. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, she joined in 1976, has held various offices including Troy Chapter Vice Regent 1982-1984, Troy Chapter Regent 1984-1986 and secretary for a number of years. She was currently serving as the Troy Chapter Chairman of the DAR Services for Veterans Committee and also the Troy Chapter Chairman of the Missouri Room in Continental Hall. She was also a member of the First Christian Church, Christian Women Fellowship, and Retired Teachers Association and served as secretary for a number of years in Lincoln County. Alice also belonged to the National Society of Magna Charta Dames & Barons, Democratic Club, Troy Literary Club Keystone Sunday School Member, Sulphur Lick Cemetery Association, where she served as secretary for a number of years and was nominated Volunteer of the Year by OATS in 1998. When Alice was not busy volunteering her time to the local organizations, she enjoyed picking berries, tending her flower garden and spending time with Hayden, fishing and traveling, her favorite trip was to Europe. Her hard work and dedication will be deeply missed by many. Mrs. Foster is survived by her cousins, Kenneth L.White of Silex, Missouri, William Finnerty (Maxine) of Eolia, Missouri, Richard Finnerty (Janet) of Wentzville, Missouri, Robert White of Florissant, Missouri, Ora Patricia Sloan (Michael) of Wilmington, Illinois, Ken White (Laura) of Silex, Missouri, Nancy Behlmann (Greg) of Silex, Missouri, Marsha Holloway (Eugene) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Linda Engelhardt (Max) of Silex, Missouri, Sherry Smith of O’Fallon, Missouri,Wayne Finnerty (Lori) of Silex, Missouri, John Finnerty (Pam) of Troy, Missouri, Rick Finnerty (Lynne) of Foristel, Missouri, Corina Moore (Rick) of Creve Coeur, Missouri, Leslie Finnerty (Rick) of Cassville, Sherrie Finnerty Davis (Nicholas) of Hannibal, Missouri, Donna Elison (Gregory) of Eolia, Missouri, Charles, Carla and Tamara Septowski of St Louis, Missouri, Kathleen Thiry, Michael Sloan, Kenneth (Amy) Sloan, David (Eileen) Sloan and Robert Sloan all of Colorado; step-daughter, Virginia K. Smith (William) of Wisconsin; two step-grandsons, James and Charles Smith; numerous relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and cousins, Charlie Finnerty, Ora Ruth Septowski, Mary Elizabeth Winstrup and Patrick Bomman. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Kemper-Marsh-Millard Family Funeral Home/ Troy Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the First Christian Church (1302 Boone St, Troy, MO 63379). Officiating the service will be Pastor Jane Kelley. Interment will be held at Sulphur Lick Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Christian Church or Bread for Life Food Pantry.
