Barbara A. Bockhorst

Barbara A. Bockhorst, 83, of Troy, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab in Troy, Missouri. She was born on February 2, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri, and was the daughter of Harold Calvert and Lillian Amelia (Smith) Cox. Barb graduated from Central High School in 1957 and continued her education at University of Missouri and later finished with master’s in education at Washington University in 1971. She was a teacher from 1961 until her retirement in 2004, teaching for Troy R-III School District, Fort Zumwalt and the Transition Teaching Program. She was a member of the MNEA, NEA , MENSA and Troy Lions Club. Barb served as past president of Carillon Music Club. She enjoyed reading and embordering. Barb was known for her crafts; she made the most beautiful bookmarks and paper folds. She valued the time she spent with her family especially, the grandchildren by playing cards and dice games with them. When you would ask Barb how she was, her favorite response was “If I get any better I will fly.” Barb’s whitty personality will be deeply missed. Barb is survived by her two sons: William D. Bockhorst, Jr. of Troy, MO and Walter R. Bockhorst and wife Michelle of Troy, MO; one sister, Joan Arlene Potts; grandchildren: Taylor Bockhorst, Tony Orlando (Dawn), Johnathan Bockhorst and Allyson Bockhorst; four great-grandchildren: Kylie Orlando, Cora Orlando, Kamron Ellis and Gabby Gittemeier; a very special friend, Altha Marsh; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Betty Bockhorst, Mary VanAcker, Diane Bockhorst and Sam Bockhorst (Charlene). nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Harold Cox and Lillian Sharpe (James) and her granddaughter, Marissa Orlando; one brother and one sister: Harold Cox, Peggy Hansel (Mick) and one brother-in-law, Bob Potts; former husband: William D. Bockhorst, Sr.; and brothers-in-law: Michael E. Bockhorst, Lee H. Bockhorst and David VanAcker. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023 at KEMPER-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel located at 351 Monroe Street Troy, MO 63379. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Kemper-Keim Family Funeral Chapel in Troy, MO. Interment will be held in Troy City Cemetery in Troy, MO.
