Barbara Ann Nickel

Barbara Nickel 72, of Troy, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2015 at SSM DePaul Health Center. She was born on June 27, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the Oscar and Mildred (Pendelton) Willis. She was united in marriage to Roy Nickel on March 19, 1999 in Florissant, Missouri. Barb graduated from Fairview High School in 1960. She worked for the St. Louis City Police Department as a file clerk, supervisor for Bowling Proprietors, River Roads Bowling Alley, Tropicana Bowling Alley and owner and operator of Annie’s Country Baskets. If you saw a Welcome to Troy basket, Welcome to the R-III School District basket, a local Christmas gift basket or any other gift basket in the Troy area, it was more than likely made with love by Barb. She was very instrumental to her community as a member of the Troy Chamber of Commerce, Professional Business Woman of Lincoln County (PBW), Friends of the Hospital and the Red Hat Society. She was never at an idle. Barb served as a board of director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau for the Troy Chamber of Commerce and was a past secretary for the Moscow Mills Chamber of Commerce. She was full of endless ideas and founder of the Troy Leads Group for the Troy Chamber of Commerce, a creator of the Senior Fair and the Ladies Night Out with the PBW. In 2004 Barb received the PBW Woman of the Year Award. This past year she served on the Salvation Army board of directors. In her earlier years she enjoyed sewing and hand quilted a blanket for each grandchild. She never missed her two favorite T.V. Shows, The Big Bang Theory and Dancing with the Stars. Barb and Roy spent many of their Friday nights at the Our Auction Service in Truxton. Her compassion and dedications to the community will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Roy Nickel of Troy; three children, Katherine Verace and husband Vincent of Troy, James Brauch and wife Jill of St. Charles and Cheri Hosea and husband Randy of Florissant; step-children, Chris Moeller of St. Louis, Jackie Nickel of Troy, Roy Nickel, Jr. of Georgia, Nancy Baca and husband Alan of Centralia and Jeff Nickel and wife Pam of Lake Saint Louis; one sister-in-law, Peggy Smith of St. Louis; 19 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way, nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Micky Smith. Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at KEMPER-MILLARD-KEIM Family Funeral Home / Troy Chapel.
