Hershel Wayne Tharp

Hershel Wayne Tharp, 73, of Hawk Point, MO, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on March 21, 1949 to Donald and Eva (Townsend) Tharp. Hershel was united in marriage to Rebecca Ann “Becky’ Bond on January 6, 1968 in Webster Groves, Missouri and to this union one daughter and one son were born. Hershel started in the egg industry at the young age of 20 and retired as a Plant Manager from Agri Foods for Schnucks Market. He was a member of the Troy Wesleyan Church in Troy, Missouri. Hershel was very active with the Hawk Point Athletic Association, during his children’s ball playing years. He liked fishing and hunting, especially for deer, turkey and squirrels. You could always find Hershel either watching T.V. or listening to music. He was the life of the party and was always smiling. Hershel was very knowledgeable when it came to life and found the positive in everything. He was a family man and was an adopted dad to many. Hershel leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Becky Tharp of Troy, MO; one daughter and one son: Rachel Shocklee and husband Dean of Green Castle, MO and Donnie Tharp of Troy, MO; grandchildren: Tabetha Brown (Jesse), Eli Stewart, Courtney McDonald (Zeke), Christa Shocklee, Nick Shocklee (Kelsey), Kaleb Shocklee (Ashley) and Sam Shocklee; great-grandchildren: Milly, Colton, Benny, Storm, Jordin, Charles, Nathaniel, Samuel and Louisa; one sister, Peggy Hannah (Denny); two sisters-in-law, Janet Tharp and Pamela Tharp; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Hershel is also survived by the ones who chose to call him dad and grandpa. Those who were seen as his adopted daughters and sons: Rachel Crofts, Shelly Weber, Chris Sonnenberg, Tim Sonnenberg, Mark Broz and Kent Broz; adopted grandchildren: Chance, Seth, Megan, Monique, Curtis, Desi, Christopher, Gerald, Victor, Christian, Issabell, Gary, Luke, Olivia, Madison, Ryan, Branden and Cierra. He was preceded in death by his parents: Donald and Eva; five brothers: Donald, Jim, Bob, William and Jackie; one sister, Mary, numerous other family and friends. Family and friends will be received from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at KEMPER-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel located at 41 Farm Lane Hawk Point, MO 63349. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Hawk Point Chapel. Interment will be held at the Hawk Point City Cemetery in Hawk Point, Missouri.
