James "Don" Donald Hughes

James “Don” Donald Hughes, 90 of Troy, Missouri, went home to the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Mercy Health-Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. He was born on December 25, 1934 in Clifton Hill, Missouri, and was the son of the late George Washington and Elise (Howard) Hughes. Don married the love of his life Martha Lejane Hughes, on August 25, 1957 in Clifton Hill, Missouri and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2012. Together, they shared two sons and one daughter. Don graduated from Clifton Hill High School. He served his country in the United States Navy. Don enlisted on November 21, 1952 and was honorably discharged on December 9, 1955. Don was a member of the Airborn Mine Counter Measures Association. He retired from Boeing after many years of dedication. Don owned and operated a trucking company for several years. He spent many years as a dairy farmer. Don liked spending time in the garden and could fix just about anything. He was stubborn at times but had a heart of gold! Don is survived by his one son, Gerald Kent Hughes and wife Belinda of Kevil, KY; one brother, Kenneth Hughes of Springfield, MO; three grandchildren: Jessica Baugh and husband Danny, Jennifer Frost and husband Mark and Austin Hughes; five great-grandchildren: Carson, Carter, Camden, Hunter and Evelyn; nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Martha Hughes; one son, George Thomas Hughes; one daughter, Molly Kay Kientzy; two brothers: William Hughes and Jimmy Hughes and one sister, Margaret Turner. Family and friends will be received from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at KEMPER-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel located at 351 Monroe Street Troy, MO 63379. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025 Kemper-Keim Family Funeral Chapel in Troy, MO. Interment will be held with full military honors at the Troy City Cemetery in Troy, Missouri.
