Luther "Skip" Wesley Launius

Luther “Skip” Wesley Launius, 86, of Troy, Missouri, was fortified with the sacraments of holy mother of church on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at SSM St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born on March 26, 1939, in Danville, Missouri and was the son of Luther and Mary Joanna (Krumanocker) Launius. Skip was united in marriage to Antoinette ”Toni” Mary Bommarito on June 14, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union four sons were born. Skip graduated Laboure High School and continued his education at St. Louis Community College- Florissant Valley. He served his country in the United States Navy from November 19, 1957 until he was honorably discharged on October 16, 1961. Skip retired after many years of dedication with McDonald Douglas. In his earlier years he was active with the Boy Scouts and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Skip was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Fan. With a true love and dedication to the Cardinals he spent 7 years at spring training in Jupiter, FL and another 13 years working spring training. You would see Skip’s familiar face working during the St. Louis Cardinals ball games at Busch Stadium. He had a large collection of St. Louis Cardinals Memorabilia. Skip was often stubborn at times and would give you the shirt off of your back if you needed it. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. His contagious smile and outgoing personality will be deeply missed. Skip is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Antoinette “Toni” Launius; two sons: David Launius (Mary Faith), Jeffery Launius (Dawn); two sisters: Veronica “Roni” Belko and Marietta “Etta” Williams, grandchildren: Charlotte Rogers(Jon), Charlene Launius, Amber Bovee (Brandon)Katherine Flynn, Elizabeth Launius, Kenneth Launius, Karl Launius, Heather West, Shawn Launius and Alisia Launius; fifteen great-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild, four great-great-grandchildren, two step great-great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Andrea Dunning; nieces, nephews, cousins and his adopted family at Busch Stadium. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Kenneth Launius and Matthew Launius; one sister, Clara “Von” Johnston and eight brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 21, 2025 at KEMPER-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel located at 351 Monroe Street Troy, MO 63379. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 21, 20255 at Kemper-Keim Family Funeral Chapel in Troy, MO. The family request everyone to wear their Cardinal gear in memory of Skip. Interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
