Mildred Jean Whitener

Mildred Jean (Johnson) Whitener, 88, of Winfield, Missouri, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015 at her residence. She was born on December 31, 1926 in Belle, Missouri, the daughter of the late Charles P. and Flora E. (Lore) Johnson. Jean was a strong, brave, and loving woman. She taught her children well and showed them how to embrace life, face adversity, and show unconditional love. She was a woman who was full of life and was always there for her children, special people, brothers and sisters, grandchildren and everyone. Jean graduated high school in 1944. In her earlier years she enjoyed riding her bike, taking long walks and square dancing across Europe. She was self-employed cleaning privately for individuals, was a homemaker and took care of her family. Jean’s hobbies were painting, putting together puzzles, making sun catchers and ceramics. She taught at the Lindbergh High School as a ceramics instructor for several years. Jean was a member of Dancing Grandmas, they would travel to nursing homes and various civic functions to square dance for a cause. She would never turn down a shopping trip or baking cookies with lots of love with her family. Jean always saw trees of green, red roses, too. She saw them bloom, for me and you. She saw friends shaking hands, sayin’, “How do you do?” They’re really sayin’ “I love you.” And she would say to everyone, “What a wonderful world.” She is survived by her children: Dawn “Cookie” Sailor and husband Jack of Clayton, Kim Wandersee of Germantown, MD, Bambi Kerley and husband Ray of Winfield and John Wandersee and wife Laura of Byrnes Mill; siblings: Dorothy “Dot” Lawson and husband Glenn of Rolla, Gloria “Tootie” Vaughn of St. Peters, Charles “Chuck” Johnson and wife Shelia of Ballwin and William “Billy” Johnson and wife Maurna of Wildwood; one daughter-in-law, Marlynn Wandersee of Hawk Point; ten grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, caregiver, Brandon King of Troy, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, significant other, Stan, three sons, Jeffrey Wandersee, Michael Wandersee and Lloyd “Skip” Wandersee and three sisters. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at KEMPER-MILLARD-KEIM Family Funeral Home / Troy Chapel. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Liberty Cemetery located near 35010 Maries Rd 413 Belle, MO 65013.
