Phillip Grillo

Phillip Grillo, 94, of Hawk Point, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at his residence in Hawk Point, Missouri. He was born on January 9, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri was the son of Nicolo and Mary (Pendino) Grillo. Phillip was united in marriage to Marian Elizabeth Rippey in St. Louis, Missouri and she preceded him in death. He later married Shirley Olivia Zmaila in 1998 until her passing in 2021. Phillip graduated from high school and served his country in the United States Navy from January of 1946 until he was honorably discharged in November of 1947. He retired as a Personnel Director at the St. Louis Post Office with over 30 years of dedication. Phillip was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawk Point, Missouri, where he served as an usher. He looked forward to playing softball with his sons every Friday night and pitched until he was 65 years old. Phillip moved to Hawk Point and built his forever home. He enjoyed life fishing, having family and friends over for BBQs and tractor rides. Phillip was a very loving, soft spoken man and was always concerned about others. Phillip is survived by two sons: Nicholas Grillo of Hawk Point, MO and Phil Grillo (Catherine) of Ballwin, MO; six grandchildren: Ryan (Meghan), Rachael (Michael), Dominic, Samuel (Kelly), Anthony and Vincent (Esperanza); twenty great-grandchildren; niece, Karen (Michael), nephew, Glenn, cousins, Annette (Charles) and Russell (Elaine), the Zmaila Family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives: Marian Grillo, Shirley Grillo and one sister, Catherine Bechtold (Wilbert). Family and friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 at KEMPER-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel located at 41 Farm Lane Hawk Point, MO 63349. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church located at 458 Main Street Hawk Point, MO 63349.
