Charles (Charlie) Wayne Hackmann
December 11, 1936 - November 4, 2021
Charles (Charlie) Wayne Hackmann of Troy, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the age of 84 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Charlie was born to Leland Vivian Hackmann and Dora Edith (Lamb) Hackmann in St. Charles, Missouri on December 11, 1936. He met the love of his life, Mary Lou Pohlman, at The Barn, a popular dance hall at the time. Having initially mistaken her for a former girlfriend, he quickly recovered and asked her to dance. They were married on October 10, 1959 and raised a family. Together they created a successful construction and development company. Charlie enjoyed his life seeking mischief and adventure. As a kid he loved to play pranks and practical jokes on his family and friends. His quest for adventure led him to the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego, CA and upon his honorable discharge hitchhiked home. He will be fondly remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. Those who knew him well will remember his generosity – his home was always open and he would always lend a hand to those in need; his work ethic – driven and determined; his sparkling blue eyes full of laughter and mischief – never truly knowing if he was teasing or joking; his quest for adventure – traveling across the world, exploring in his RV and his vintage cars, wandering the countryside on trail rides, and flying airplanes. Both friends and family will remember the laughter and good times, parties, and family reunions. He was a man of his word who was always willing to help – especially if something needed to be fixed. Charlie will be remembered as a survivor. He survived car explosions, near drownings, severe burns and cancer. He fought Alzheimer’s for years refusing to let it deter him from working on his vintage cars or in his shop. Charlie is survived by his wife Mary Lou of 62 years; children: Suzanne (Jim) Bonney of Leonardo, NJ, Barbara (Douglas) Walther of Flower Mound, TX, Richard (Tricia) Hackmann of Troy and Rande Hackmann of Troy; grandchildren: Sierra and Alex Bonney, Zachary and Rachel Walther, Melissa (John) Pace and Christopher Hackmann; great-grandchildren: Laney, Kaden, Grayson and Noah Pace, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Lorraine Hackmann, Kathleen (Herb) Stewart, Dorothy (Joe) Ohrman, Robert (Claire) Hackmann and Floyd Hackmann. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021, at KEMPER-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel located at 351 Monroe Street Troy, MO 63379. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 100 Thompson Drive Troy, MO 63379. Officiating the mass will be Father Mike Lydon.
