Loy Gene Austin

April 10, 1943 - March 15, 2017

Loy Gene Austin, 73, of Troy, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at UCSD Hospital in San Diego, California. He was born on April 10, 1943 in Cleveland, Arkansas, a son of the late Loy and Opal (Church) Austin. Gene was united in marriage to Alice Margaret Vollmer on January 7, 1984 at the Whittemore House in St. Louis, Missouri. Gene graduated from Charleston High School and entered the United States Marine Corps on December 1, 1961 and was honorably discharged on March 30, 1966. He was a lifetime farmer, a commercial painter contractor and then owner and operator of Rock On Hauling and R Lazy A Trucking. Gene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus and Painters District Council member. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and being outdoors. Gene and Alice loved traveling to visit family and friends. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Alice Austin of Troy, MO; six children: Jeanie Lynette Johnson of Barstow, CA, Douglas Glenn Austin and Debbie of Desoto, IN, Lynise Marilyn Baker of St. Louis, MO, Alisa Jean Costello of St. Louis, MO, Jason Gene Austin of St. Louis, MO and Josephine Church Austin of California; two brothers and four sisters: DW Austin and Patsy of Desoto, IN, Virginia Haney of Springdale, AR, Wilma Faye Squires of Fenton, MO, James Dew Austin and Benita of St. Louis, MO, Elaine Kay Tise of Dover, AR and Debbie Fauria of Fayette, AR; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter Claire Hope Austin, one brother, Hevenor Austin, one sister, Thelma Hammonds. Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at KEMPER-MILLARD-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel located at 351 Monroe Street Troy, MO 63379. A mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 100 Thompson Drive Troy, MO 63379. Interment will be held at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, with full military honors. Concelebrating the mass will be Father Tom Wissler with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Father Don Schramm with St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Austin family, in care of KEMPER-MILLARD-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 222 Troy, MO 63379.
