Robert E. Smith Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Robert E. Smith, 93, of Troy, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Mercy Hospital Lincoln in Troy, Missouri. He was born on January 8, 1924 in Cooter, Missouri and was the son of the late Robert E. and Sallie (Morgan) Smith. Robert was united in marriage to Maggie King in 1961 in St. Charles, Missouri. Robert attended grade school in a one room school house and continued his education at Deering Jr. High School. From 1941 to 1942, he was at the C.C.C. Camp in Cuivre River State Park. He then enlisted in the United States Army on May 13, 1944 and was honorably discharged in February 22, 1946. While serving his country during WWII in Italy, he earned a Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, 1 Overseas Service Bar and a Medal of Good Conduct. Robert retired after over fifty years of dedication as an Operating Engineer with Local 513. In his earlier years he was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Robert enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing and never met a stranger. He liked watching and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. Robert truly loved his family and the time they shared together. He is survived by his three sons: Robert E. Smith and wife Mary of Ottisville, Michigan, Gailen Smith and wife Sheri of Eolia, Missouri; Zachary Smith and wife Becky of Troy, Missouri; nine grandchildren: Lonnie, Mical, Christine, Jennifer, Clifford, Garrett, Cody, Katie, Brandon; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and numerous relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Maggie in 2000, his brothers: Archie, Ralph, Clyde and E.J. Smith, and a sister: Peggy Johnson. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at KEMPER-MILLARD-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel, located at 351 Monroe Street Troy, MO 63379. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, on June 23, 2017 KEMPER-MILLARD-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel in Troy, MO. Interment will be held at the Old Alexandria Cemetery. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, VFW Post #8828 or American Legion, in care of Kemper-Millard-Keim Family Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 222 Troy, MO 63379.
