Albert H. "Sonny" Schieffer

Albert H. “Sonny” Schieffer, 84, of Troy, Missouri passed away peacefully on the family farm, surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Troy, Missouri. He was born on June 5, 1932 in Troy, Missouri, a son of the late John Joseph and Nettie Mae (Holmes) Schieffer. Sonny was united in marriage to Betty Lou Zalaback on May 22, 1949 in Troy, Missouri. To this union two sons and four daughters were born. Sonny was born and raised in Lincoln County and graduated from Birkhead School. He worked for Westermann Lockard Farms, over saw the farming at a young age with a team of horses and livestock for John and Lorene Creech Farms for over 65 years. Sonny served as one of the board of directors for the Thornhill Cemetery Association. He was very active with the youth in his community, especially at the Lincoln County Fair overseeing the mule jumps and the frog and turtle races. Sonny was an outdoor enthusiast who loved spending time with his coon dogs in the woods and trapping. He also enjoyed fishing adventures with his family, hunting and training his mules. Betty and Sonny took pride in their garden, especially their large tomatoes. He was a simple man, who worked hard his entire life to provide for his family and enjoyed the memories he made. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Lou Schieffer of Troy; two sons and four daughters: Ed Schieffer and wife Marie of Troy, Janice Beckwith and husband Mark of Troy, Debbie Mense and husband Herb of Old Monroe, Russell Schieffer and wife Lynn of Troy, Tina Phillips of Troy and Brenda Ludy of Silex; two sisters: Theresa Harrell of Troy and Eleanor “Tootie” Shafer of Moscow Mills; grandchildren: Sarah Butler (Dan), Sam Schieffer (Alycia), Mary Beckwith, Jayson Beckwith (Megan), Don Mense (Cheri), Dale Mense (Jennifer), Carl Mense (Nancy) Willie Leverington (Lindsay) Bart Leverington (Jenny), Eric Schieffer (Jackie), Amanda Schieffer (Devon), James Schieffer (Amanda), and twenty-one great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson John Joseph Leverington, one great-grandson Nathan Mense, mother-in-law and father-in-law, son-in-law, Roger Phillips, siblings: Alma Harrell, Joe Schieffer, Walter Schieffer, Ella Muensterman, John Schieffer, Rose Thornhill, Charles Schieffer, Mary Twellmann, Margaret Ramsour, Herman Schieffer, and three infants. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at NORTH ROAD Community Church located at 49 College Campus Drive Moscow Mills, MO 63362. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the North Road Community Church in Moscow Mills, MO. Interment will be held at the Thornhill Cemetery in Troy, Missouri.
