Betty Lou Schieffer

Betty Lou Schieffer, 83, of Troy, Missouri passed away peacefully on the family farm, surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 5, 2017, in Troy, Missouri. She was born on March 22, 1933 in Lincoln County, Missouri, a daughter of the late Alfred E. and Carminetta B. (Womble) Zalaback. Betty was united in marriage to Albert “Sonny” Schieffer on May 22, 1949 in Troy, Missouri and he preceded her in death on February 2, 2017. To this union two sons and four daughters were born. Betty worked at Herlo Corporation from 1969 until her retirement in 1994. She was a caregiver her entire life, starting with her children, later her parents and several others. Betty enjoyed gardening, canning her fresh produce, and fishing on the family farm. She liked polka dancing, playing bingo, cooking and giving away her pies made with love. Betty was an active member of the Moscow Mills United Methodist Church, enjoyed the fellowship and the ladies quilting. Betty was a sports fan enthusiastic, she was always cheering on her children, later her grandchildren and the St. Louis Cardinals. She is survived by her, two sons and four daughters: Ed Schieffer and wife Maria of Troy, Janice Beckwith and husband Mark of Troy, Debbie Mense and husband Herb of Old Monroe, Russell Schieffer and wife Lynn of Troy, Tina Phillips of Troy and Brenda Ludy of Silex; one brother, Leon Zalaback (Rio) of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law, Eleanor “Tootie” Shafer of Moscow Mills; grandchildren: Sarah Butler (Dan), Sam Schieffer (Alycia), Mary Beckwith, Jayson Beckwith (Megan), Don Mense (Cheri), Dale Mense (Jennifer), Carl Mense (Nancy) Willie Leverington (Lindsay) Bart Leverington (Jenny), Eric Schieffer (Jackie), Amanda Schieffer (Devon), James Schieffer (Amanda), and twenty-one great-grandchildren; one close cousin, Phyllis Hornbeck of Mexico, MO; nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Sonny” Schieffer, her parents, one grandson John Joseph Leverington, one great-grandson Nathan Mense, mother-in-law and father-in-law, son-in-law, Roger Phillips, one brother, Billie Zalaback, one sister, Donna Henningfield, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alma Harrell, Joe Schieffer, Walter Schieffer, Ella Muensterman, John Schieffer, Rose Thornhill, Charles Schieffer, Mary Twellmann, Margaret Ramsour, Herman Schieffer, three infants and Theresa Harrell. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at KEMPER-MILLARD-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel, located at 351 Monroe Street Troy, MO 63379. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the KEMPER-MILLARD-KEIM Family Funeral Chapel in Troy, MO. Interment will be held at the Thornhill Cemetery in Troy, Missouri.
