Joseph "Joe" Clem Witte

Joseph “Joe” Clem Witte, 79, of Troy, Missouri passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at SSM St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born on August 5, 1940 in Ethyln, Missouri, a son of the late Clem Joseph and Agnes Elizabeth (Reller) Witte. Joe was united in marriage to Lynette (Cobb) Mudd. He was blessed with Lynette and her sons Darren and Eric and they soon became his sons. Lynette preceded him in death on January 26th, 1982. He later married Sandra “Sandy” L. Sullivan on March 25, 1988 in Troy, Missouri. Joe and Sandy enjoyed 32 years of marriage. Joe and Sandy made quite the team in business and in their lives. Joe was pampered and dearly loved by Sandy. Joe attended Sacred Heart Catholic School when it was 4 grades in one room and graduated from Buchanan High in 1958. He continued his education at Central Methodist earning a degree in Economics and Business Administration. Upon graduation he served his country in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962 where he was honorably discharged. He then joined the family business and worked with Witte Brothers. He managed the feed lot and loved working with the livestock. Joe then worked at Agri-Foods in Waste Management and found his interest in Real Estate. He joined the Cannon Companies Team and successfully made a name for himself in the business. He later worked with his wife Sandy and continued real estate. They decided to try a new venture and became partners in J. R. Diamonds Restaurant. They loved working with the staff and all their customers. They made many friends in the 5 years they were in business. Joe and Sandy continued to work together in real estate until his health didn’t permit. Joe was very active within the community in the local organizations. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, Elks Club and Kiwanis. He has served as treasurer and past president of the Kiwanis as well as chosen as Man of the Year for the Kiwanis in 1990 and 2006. Joe was also awarded the Hixson Award in 2011. Joe was the Troy Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 2009. He was a past member of the Cattlemen’s Association and East Central Board of Realtors. Joe was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Joe was given the privilege of a lifetime to take part in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Joe never met a stranger and if he did, you weren’t a stranger for long. He was easy going and had a smile that could light up a room. He enjoyed cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sandy Witte of Troy, MO; two sons: Darren Mudd and wife Katie of Troy, MO and Eric Mudd of Troy, MO; grandchildren: Kacy A. Mudd, Jack D. Mudd and Brynn A. Mudd; one brother and two sisters: Harry Witte and wife Nora of Troy, MO, Leona “Tooky” Thornhill of Brentwood, CA and Mary June Anderson of Moscow Mills, MO. Joe was loved dearly by many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless treasured friends as well as his special friend “Juddy”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Agnes Witte, wife, Lynette Witte, two brothers, James and Martin Witte, brothers-in-law: C.O. Anderson and Sam Thornhill, mother-in-law and father-in-law: Dennis and Vivien Sullivan, sister-in-law, Tootie Sullivan and brother-in-law, Kelly Sullivan. A celebration a Joe’s life will be held at a later date open to the public. Due to circumstances out of our control the family only will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Knights of Columbus located at 500 Hwy J Troy, MO 63379. As per the Archdiocese’s request the funeral mass will be held for the family only at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 100 Thompson Drive Troy, MO 63379. Interment will be held in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Old Monroe, MO. Officiating the mass will be Father Mike Lydon, Father Don Schram and Father Tom Wissler.
