Louise Head

Louise Waers Head, 102, Troy, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 at Troy Manor. She was born on December 15, 1909 in Kearney, Missouri, a daughter of Arthur Earl Waers and Delia Cox Waers. She was united in marriage to Jesse Bert Head on October 22, 1932 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1988. Louise attended grade school in Platte City and graduated from Platte City High School in 1926. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, and a master’s degree at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas. Mrs. Head did post graduate study at the University of Missouri and University of Kansas. She taught in Platte County from 1928 to 1950 and was a teacher and guidance counselor in Leavenworth, Kansas from 1950 to 1975. She was a member of the Study Club in Platte City, Missouri, Business and Professional Woman of Platte City, The National Education Association, Leavenworth Teacher Association, The Kansas counselor and Guidance Association, and the St. Stephen United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Eleanor L. Miller of Troy, Missouri and John B. Head and wife, Carol of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren: John W. Miller, Dan Miller (Chong Nan), Tom Miller (Tamara), Carolyn Sue Carrigan (David), Jesse Head (Stephanie); six great-grandchildren: Chelsea Jones, Charles Miller, Luke Miller, Sarah Miller, Matthew Miller and Colette Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, Gordon Waers, Chester Waers, Jim Waers and Val Waers and one son-in-law, William J. Miller. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Kemper-Marsh-Millard Family Funeral Home/ Troy Chapel. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Platte City Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Pastor Steve Pinnell.
