Robert "Sonny" Edward Newcomb Jr.

Robert “Sonny” Edward Newcomb, Jr., 70, of Hawk Point, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at his residence. He was born on August 17, 1948 in Gideon, Missouri and the son of the late Robert E. and Dorothy (Horn) Newcomb. He was united in marriage to Virginia M. Leffeler on June 27, 1970 in St. Paul, Missouri and to this union one son and one daughter were born. Sonny graduated from Fort Zumwalt High School in 1968 and joined the United States Marine Corps upon graduating high school. After basic training in California he was sent to Vietnam where he spent his time as a Radio Operator. After Robert and Virginia were married they lived in O’Fallon, MO area until 1998 when they moved to Hawk Point, MO. Robert spent 35 years as a production technician at MEMC during which time he started his own lawn care company. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #5077 in O’Fallon, MO. Was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #47 in Wentzville, MO. Sonny achieved the 32-degree Mason and for a period was a member of the Daniel Boone Shriner Club Clown Group. He was Lodge Master and was very proud of what he achieved as a Mason. Sonny loved gardening, hunting and especially fishing. You could find him every Thursday at the Lincoln County Veterans Coffee Talk. He will be deeply missed by many. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Virginia Newcomb of Hawk Point, MO; one son and one daughter: Michael D. Newcomb and wife Stephanie of O’Fallon, MO and Rebecca Buchheit and fiancé Kevin Johnston of Hawk Point, MO; five grandchildren: Jessica M. Buchheit, Samantha G. Buchheit, Jeremy M. Buchheit, Arianna Newcomb and Olivia R. Newcomb; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Waller; three brothers: Dick Newcomb and wife Gerry of Walcott, IA, Ancle Newcomb and wife Jean of Winfield, MO and Terry Newcomb and wife Myla of Eldon, MO; two sisters: Gaytha Woods and husband Morris of Paducah, KY and Vicki Sue Maclin of Tampa, FL; one aunt, Mary Cody LaMeer of McHenry, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Dorothy (Horn) Newcomb.
