William Dunlap

William “Bill” Edward Dunlap, 82, of Troy, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his family on April 25, 2012 at DePaul Health Center. He was born on April 25, 1930 in Sligo, Missouri, son of the late William Arch and Emma Litty Dunlap. He was united in marriage to Gloria Teasley on July 20, 1962 at Elsberry Methodist Church in Elsberry, Missouri. To this union two children were born. Bill graduated from Salem High School in 1947. He enlisted in the Navy from 1947 to 1949 and later the Army Reserves, where he attended candidate school and became a captain. He was employed for McDonnell Douglas, Missouri State Highway Patrol and The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department as a bailiff. Sgt. William Dunlap, badge number 435, served faithfully and honorably since October 12, 1958 and retired from the Department of Public Safety, State Of Missouri Highway Patrol on April 1, 1989, from Troop C. He received several awards, for his distinguished and dedicated service advancing the respect for the law objective of optimist international by the Troy Optimist Club in 1985 and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department on March 25, 1989. He was a member of the St. Stephen United Methodist Church, Missouri State Troops Association (MOSTA). He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, yard work and going to his daily morning coffee at Landmark Restaurant. Bill was a well respected, proud, dignified man, who was very encouraging and uplifting and did not know a stranger. His proudest moments were spent with his family and they held a special place in his heart. Bill was loving husband of 49 years to Gloria Dunlap of Troy, Missouri; four children: Shane Dunlap and wife Amy of Troy, Missouri, Lesa Hanson and husband, Curtis of Troy, Missouri, Steven Dunlap and wife, Tressa of Willow Springs, Missouri and Richelle Leighty and husband Victor of Willow Springs, Missouri; two sisters: LaVern Hamilton and JoAnn Albert and husband, Bob; eleven grandchildren: Ethan Leighty, Amy Dunlap-Woodley (Clark), Taylor Woodley, Michael Woodley, Alyssa Woodley, Courtney Woodley, Kelsi Dunlap, Alyssa Dunlap, Kali Dunlap, Karlee Hanson and Logan Hanson; sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Patsy Dunlap. Family and Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012 at KEMPER-MARSH-MILLARD Family Funeral Home / Troy Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at KEMPER-MARSH-MILLARD Family Funeral Home / Troy Chapel. Interment will be held at Old Alexandria Cemetery.
